Safeguarding and Protection of Vulnerable Individuals:
Safeguarding means protecting a person’s health, wellbeing, and human rights, and ensuring they are able to live free from harm, abuse, neglect, or exploitation. At Essential Support, safeguarding is at the heart of our companionship service. We are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every individual we work with.

Who may be at risk?
Safeguarding concerns can affect anyone, but some individuals may be more vulnerable due to age, disability, illness, social isolation, cognitive challenges, or changes in their personal circumstances. Our role is to remain attentive, observant, and proactive in recognising when someone may need additional protection or support.

Our commitment
Respect and dignity: Every person we support is treated with compassion, respect, and sensitivity.

Awareness and vigilance: We remain alert to signs of neglect, abuse, or exploitation, whether physical, emotional, financial, or environmental.

Clear reporting pathways: If we identify or suspect any safeguarding concern, we follow the appropriate reporting procedures to ensure the individual receives timely and effective support.

Professional boundaries: Our companionship service is built on trust, transparency, and safe working practices.

Empowerment: We aim to support individuals in maintaining independence, making informed choices, and feeling safe in their own homes and communities.

Types of safeguarding concerns we remain aware of:

  • Physical harm or unexplained injuries
  • Emotional or psychological distress
  • Financial exploitation or unusual financial activity
  • Neglect, including lack of basic care or unsafe living conditions
  • Social isolation or sudden changes in behaviour
  • Concerns about carers, family members, or external individuals

Why safeguarding matters:
Many people who benefit from companionship services may be navigating loneliness, reduced mobility, health challenges, or life transitions. Safeguarding ensures they are protected, listened to, and supported in a way that honours their dignity and promotes their wellbeing.

They take pride in creating a respectful, comfortable atmosphere and work with the same dignityfocused approach that defines Essential Support. Whether it’s a routine clean, a deep clean, or an Airbnb turnover, they aim to make your experience smooth, pleasant, and completely stressfree.

That’s why all our cleaners are carefully vetted, DBSchecked, and trained to uphold the highest standards of reliability, confidentiality, and respect for every space they enter. They follow safe, professional cleaning practices and deliver consistently highquality results, giving you complete peace of mind.

Data Protection & Information Sharing:
As a registered organisation with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), Essential Support is committed to protecting the privacy, dignity, and rights of every individual we work with. Safeguarding and data protection go hand in hand, and we take both extremely seriously.

Information sharing is sometimes necessary to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure their wellbeing. When concerns arise, sharing the right information with the right people can prevent harm, support early intervention, and ensure individuals receive the care and protection they need.

To guide our approach, we follow clear principles that ensure information is handled lawfully, respectfully, and only when genuinely needed.

The Principles We Follow
These seven principles help us make safe, ethical, and legally compliant decisions about information sharing:

Data protection framework — Data protection laws are not barriers to safeguarding. They provide a structure that ensures personal information is shared appropriately, responsibly, and only when justified.

Openness and honesty — We are transparent about why information may need to be shared, what will be shared, and with whom. Wherever safe and appropriate, we seek the individual’s agreement first.

Seeking guidance — If there is any uncertainty, we consult safeguarding leads or information governance professionals without revealing unnecessary personal details.

Consent where possible — We aim to share information with consent. However, if someone’s safety or wellbeing is at risk, we may share information without consent when there is a lawful basis to do so.

Safety and wellbeing first — Every decision is guided by the protection, safety, and wellbeing of the individual and anyone else who may be affected.

Sharing only what is necessary — Any information shared must be relevant, proportionate, accurate, up‑to‑date, and shared securely with only those who genuinely need it.

Clear record‑keeping — We document decisions to share (or not share) information, including what was shared, with whom, and for what purpose.

Our Commitment:
At Essential Support, we protect vulnerable individuals by combining compassion with strong professional standards. We ensure that:

  • Personal information is handled with care and respect
  • Safeguarding concerns are acted on promptly
  • Information is shared only when necessary and lawful
  • Individuals remain informed, empowered, and protected

This approach ensures that every person we support receives safe, ethical, and dignified care.
